    Description

#8 in the classic 24-volume original series byEdgar Rice Burroughs (1875-1950)...  this is Grosset & Dunlap's edition - 5.25"x7.75" - publication date unlisted, but at least post-1949 when copyright was renewed by the author...
Book has a prior price mark written on inside blank front page in pencil, then mostly erased... also some rathe minor scuffing on the spine edges and cover corners... otherwise in very good shape
This book was written in 1921.  Like almost all other white male overseas adventure writers of his day, Burroughs was not initially very aware of his chauvinism.  His occasional use of stereotyping is comparatively benign, not mean-spirited or violent, and his views evolved and were reflected in far more sensitive and egalitarian imagery by the 5th volume in a fantasy adventure series, which consequently has been able to remain immensely popular worldwide.
